First Impressions
First Impressions:
Julia Campbell
Right way color stands out to me in Julia Campbells images and website. They are softly, friendly, vibrant and so much more. It really makes her work jump out at you and she does a wonderful job utilizing multiple colors without making the composition feel like a cluttered-epileptic mess. Her stationary posters felt very fluid, and almost as they were in motion with the waviness of "Pride" and the woman casting shadows as she walked, so it was wonderful to see that they are in fact animated on her website. I think that her use of color could be a personal expression of her personality or mannerisms.
Shanell Martin
I love the welcome page for Shanell Martin's portfolio. I like how it's blown up to fit the entire screen and so there is nothing else your eyes want to focus on but the image of her and it's contrasting background. I think it provides for a very centered interaction/introduction to the artist. I think her use of the doodle-like design in the background is a great addition because the doodle phase of the design process is something that nearly every designer participates in. It also serves as a personal reflection as we can assume they are her doodles, and it gives us further insight into what she may be interested in outside of her professional work.
Annika Hasteen Izora
Right way you can tell Annika has added her personal style/touch to her portfolio site. At the top of the page a list of words and icons that she identifies with revolve around and around. They list her creative, skills, goals, interests and have fun emoji/icons that accompany which further personalizes the appearance. She's left a great deal of space on the home page which consists of a gradient background and her name in large bold sans-serif font, with a border that contains all these elements and the option to shop or contact her, and so the composition feels open and spacious. Once you begin scrolling down the page you are greeted with a profile picture and then in her words, who she is as a designer. Further down she has examples of some of her work.
All these artists did a wonderful job injecting their personal design style into their professional portfolios. Each one feels extremely unique and it almost like you're getting to know the artist as an individual right away. You can tell what their hobbies may be or what other disciplines of design they find interesting. Not one website was bland or something that could be easily replicated. Each was personal and stood out from one another.
